Print and Pattern: Mary Katrantzou & Diane Von Furstenbeg

The combination of unique vivid shapes full of color can redefine an outfit. In my opinion the two best designers at exploring print and pattern are Mary Katrantzou & Diane Von Furstenberg.  Each has a unique way of dressing the body with prints, developing new artworks to be transferred to fabric and then cut into garments.  They have trademarks that define their looks, each is distinctly unique and vibrant.

This Fall Mary Katrantzou made a new name for herself by creating groundbreaking digital prints and artworks for her Fall 2012 collection. Because of her ability to transform everyday objects into works of art on fabric she has been featured in every fashion publication concerning the season.  She has truly redefined the digital age of printing in fashion by exploring its every option & taking advantage of the vivid detail that technology allows.
“I wanted to use waves of color in this collection—but taken from things you use in everyday life,” said Mary Katrantzou

"For this season Katrantzou has been orchestrating the third of her surreal fantasias about domestic surroundings. In her computer—she’s the Leonardo of Photoshop—Katrantzou set out on a color-coded regimentation of cutlery, coat hangers, old-fashioned typewriters, telephone dials, ceramic taps, as well as the contents of desks, which sent her off (hence the pens and pencils)." Sarah Mower

More of a legend than a rising and evolving star is Diane Von Furstenberg, the queen of print and color since the mid 70's.  She has had a constant success for color combination, luxurious materials, and discovering and evoking the essence of beauty in the women she dresses.  An advocate of several philanthropic groups including Vital Voices, and an author of several books, she is a well rounded women who will continue to enhance our world with pattern and perfection.

Color of the Month: Emerald GREEN

On this the 31st of March I want to unveil what I believed to be the pop color of the month.  With March always being a month full of color with the transition into Spring, it wasn't easy to narrow it down.  Bright orange, canary yellow, and fusia pink were found all over the stores, but with St. Patty's day and the marketing, fashion, and fun that goes with it I have chosen Emerald Green as the color of March.

Amazing Bridal Gown

This amazing, world record breaking, wedding gown has a train nearly two miles long!  It is the creation of a Romanian design house.  Made by ten seamstresses over one hundred days.  Made with imported French silk and Italian taffeta the materials for this dress cost around $7300. The model was transported by air balloon over the Netherlands, the country that previously held the record for longest train.

Louis Vuitton Fall 2012

Marc Jacobs truly took us on a journey with this show.  Teetering on the line of costume, these clothes played it perfectly to our satisfactions.  We are able to see innovation and true inspiration   The models become women of the aristocracy, walking with their concierge into the Grand Hotel.  These women are coveted, conspicuous, sensuous, and luxurious.  I love the perfectly placed feathers on each cockeyed, deep brimmed hat.  The mid calf skirts with long jackets are completely femme de 1910, but still have a hint of androgyny, and with all that lurex shine it brings this vintage look into today's and tomorrow's world.  This show combined with Prada's divine presentation proves that this pre World War I look will be rebuilt, redesigned, and refit for everyone, and I can't wait!

This aristocratic themed show was set at a courtyard of the Louvre where travelers to the show pulled out their vintage Louis Vuitton luggage and suits to journey across the seas.
